About Scionon

SCIONON is a New Zealand based company specialising in the development, manufacture and distribution of grafting tools for horticultural use. Founder Ian Adams has over 40 years experience in the wider horticultural industry and has specialisted in propagation for the last 20 years. SCIONON has developed a unique range of tools to assist with scion preparation and assembly. These tools have been commercially available since 2009 when Scionon was formed.

In 2016 Scionon established a sister company in Europe - Scionon Europe, which operates from Germany. Our products are currently manufactured in both New Zealand and Germany and distributed internationally.

Scionon is well represented by a network of 20 distributors throughout the word, These are listed on our Distributor Page. To date we have supplied our innovative products to over 60 countries around the globe, with many satisfied customers.

Our Grafting Tools

The hand held Grafting Shears and bench mountable Graft Crafter are unique in that they are capable of cutting 'whip & tongue' grafts (and other graft types) without the use of a knife, enabling unskilled persons to prepare these technically difficult grafts with ease. These devices provided an immediate payback in Scionon's own contract propagation business.

The SCIONON range of grafting tools are a new concept in how grafting can be approached. They are of extremely high and durable quality and are the only grafting tools available that successfully replicate the knife cut, thereby eliminating damage to the cambium layers when grafting.

The tools enable novices through to experienced propagators to cut and assemble a wide range of grafts over a wide variety of materials. These tools have been developed to cover many grafting and budding applications and are extremely versatile in the operating range and material that can be prepared.

Scionon grafting tools can be used to bench, container and field graft.

They have already been used to graft many fruiting and ornamental varieties and species. The tools are capable of performing the following cuts: cleft, kerf, rind, wedge, whip & tongue grafts and chip & 'T' buds. They operate in the 3mm to 25mm scion wood diameter range depending on the product supplied.

In addition to the many plant species we have already advocated our tools use on, we are continually testing them on other plant materials and exploring more cutting options as different horticultural industry needs become known to us.

To date our tools have successfully been used to prepare cane/vine (grape, kiwifruit); citrus (lemon, mandarine, orange); exotics (avocado, mango, olive); nuts (pecan, macadamia, walnut); pip-fruit (apple, quince, pear), summer-fruits (almond, apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach plum, prune) and many ornamentals (including acer, ash, elm, flowering cherry & plum, gleditsia and robinia). We have also tested them on roses and maple with success.
